DR. MADHAVAN PISHARODI M.D.,
Dr. Madhavan Pisharodi is a neurosurgeon who has served the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, USA, for more than 31 years. He began his career as a board-certified neurosurgeon in India, where he was, at the time, the only neurosurgeon covering nearly one-third of the state of Kerala. During this period, he led the Division of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery at Calicut Medical College.
After moving to the United States, Dr. Pisharodi completed all board requirements (1979–1985) and earned his U.S. board certification in 1989. Since then, he has practiced general neurosurgery and developed several groundbreaking medical devices. Early in his career, he designed a unique stereotactic frame (U.S. Patent No. 5,387,220) and later shifted his focus to spinal implants. He created the “Lumbar Intervertebral Disk Stabilization (LIDS)” surgical technique and a supporting titanium disk implant, spearheading multi-center clinical studies in the U.S.
His innovations led to FDA clearance for multiple spinal systems, including the RADIX and SARAL cervical plates and the UNIMAX pedicle screw plating system, which advanced multi-level spinal stabilization. Over the years, Dr. Pisharodi has been granted more than 100 patents in the U.S. and abroad.
Beyond medicine, he holds patents for solar panel technologies, energy-efficient and device-protective battery chargers, and a vibration-based device for pain management. He also has pending patents in renewable energy, including wind and hydroelectric systems.
Currently, Dr. Pisharodi is focusing on innovative approaches to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and preparing for future infectious disease challenges. His work aims to provide long-term solutions beyond temporary measures such as testing, lockdowns, and mask mandates.
